Custom Window Top Treatments

In this section of my website, we will explore the many types of window top treatments as well as journey through some fond personal memories along the way. If you are not into the story part, just skip over them and take a look at the information you came searching for about window treatments. There's a menu to guide you at the bottom of this page. Enjoy your stay, either way.

I just love working with pretty window top treatments that finish the overall look of the room; like custom valances and cornices, don't you? Sometimes the simplest design can make the most subtle statement; and I'm always sure that "if I were younger, I could do that"!

Which Reminds Me a Story . . . I Grew Up In A Small Town Of

Northern California with a very large and close family. When I say "large" family, at the time, I was the oldest of 50+ grandchildren. I don't even remember how many great grandchildren there are. Get the picture?

But I have a cousin, to this day, is very special to me. We grew up together and were mostly inseparable and usually in some sort of trouble. You know the type . . . like getting caught smoking behind the chicken coop together? Right?

However, time and circumstances separated us long before we were ready, but we still kept in touch. Neither of us were very smart about many things, but we had heart, spirit, and ingenuity! So we would try things out of the ordinary and never say "I can't" (even if we really couldn't)!

I Especially Remember One Phone Call From My Cousin Telling Me

of her experience sewing curtains for the first time. She was almost finished except for hemming them by hand when she heard a knock at the door. When she jumped up to answer it, she discovered she had sewn the curtains to her pants! Can you imagine the expression of the salesman at the door when he took one look at her? I don't have to tell you . . . I still chuckle!

Another time she was making warm flannel sheets for their sleeping bags for an upcoming camping trip. When they got ready to crawl into their beds that night, her husband discovered she had sewn all four sides together! But did I mention we had ingenuity? She took the scissors and cut the tops off and crawled in bed! (I was delighted she didn't try to hem them!)

I'm sure you have had similar experiences where you wanted to make something yourself. You've heard about it, you've seen it, and you are so sure you can do it yourself just as well, right? Then you look at the finished product and it's just not what you thought it would be. Remember? On a more serious note . . .

Have you ever looked at the under side of a cornice, canopy or an awning?

There, my friend, is the REAL difference between the "can do" and the "can't do"! Professional custom cornices and beautiful valances are as beautifully finished on the backsides and undersides as they are on the front.

Custom window top treatments can be used as a stand-alone product, or as one of many pieced combinations that will frame or finish a full window treatment.

The decision to combine window treatments can dramatically affect the look of a room. Window top treatments are decorative in nature and will enhance architectural detail , give distinction of style, and even draw attention to itself and make the eye follow the curved or straight lines of the treatment.

You choose. Stand-alone minimal design statement, trendy with embellishments for more funky-chic, elegant folds of layered fabrics contrasting designs one on top of the other for an old world elegance, or straight simple lines of complementing horizontal strips or textured tufts of timeless beauty of our modern classic decor.

There are so many things you can add to make your valances and cornices one of a kind and truly your own. Take a look at Jill's Needle Felting Flowers. I can easily visualize these flowers along the bottom of a valance or on the diagonal of a cornice to really mark the focal point of a room. Can you see it? With unique treatments like Jill's beautiful fiber art you can paint any picture you want on your drapery treatments. This is a prime example of why you must keep your eyes open when entering your design mode. Let your own creative juices flow into a one of a kind masterpiece.

If you'd like to learn more about style, function, types, and uses of window top treatments, or take a tour of simple straight cornice boxes or the layered folds of formal pelmet valances , from the narrow hallway opening with a lambrequins , to the widest of picture windows full of swags, jabots, and cascades layered over beautiful draperies ; the sassy bistro awning in the kitchen, or other combinations of many window top treatments.

Here you will find a window top treatment for every occasion. (But leave it to the professionals)! You need only bring heart and ingenuity. Enjoy! If you would like to know more about window top treatments, take a journey through the following pages following the short menu below.
