Custom Drapes VS Ready-Made-Draperies
Today, the market is flooded with ready-made-draperies as "casual" has become the normal. Originally,
custom draperies
were used for more sophisticated decor and blended fabrics and styles made the difference between casual and refined. The nation has turned to a more modern flair, and that has made the cheap window coverings more popular.
There are very keen differences between custom drapes and ready-made-draperies. But first, let's define what drapery really is and how we can easily detect the difference. How do you know if your draperies outlet inexpensive window treatments are all you need and want?
So What Is Ready-Made-Draperies? And What Is It NOT?
Drapery is by definition a panel, or panels, of fabric that covers the entire window, or is set up as non-operable stationary panels. These often feature some kind of pleated top, either stiff with buckram or soft without buckram, depending upon the style. This is true with custom AND ready made drapes. Custom drapery can stand alone as a complete window treatment, or have added features like a drapery valance for effect. These headings might consist of pleats, again stiff or soft with the use of or without buckram. This, again, is true for both custom and ready-made-draperies.
A distinct difference usually is in the
drapery lining and drapery interlining.
They are often used to give the fabric more body so it will drape into nicer folds, and provide a more luxurious look and feel to the panels. Many workrooms claim it makes the finished look "beefier" to the look and feel, especially when using silks, faux silks, and other light weight fabrics. This is almost always missing in budget window treatments. They are mostly unlined and very rarely interlined, if ever.
Custom drapery hem lengths vary but usually stop just before the floor for operable ones, and stationary ones can either break here, or be puddled on the floor; which means they sit on the floor and have excess fabric up to 15 inches or more "puddled".
Do-it-yourself window treatments, (DIY), draperies outlet, and inexpensive window treatments usually have limited lengths and you must adjust your size by how low or high you hang your hardware for it.
If your window is wide, you will have to use 4 panels of ready-made-draperies, leaving gaps between the panels unless you sew them together. Then you have the seams that have already been finished with hems to either rip out or overlap.
