Window Blinds And Shades Do You Really Want Wood?
There are an abundance of reasons we still love the look of wooden window blinds and shades over the look of fabric custom drapery and curtains when selecting our window treatments.
For many of us, the look of wooden window blinds is the most beautiful thing we can do to our windows. Nothing says warmth and comfort like deep cherry wood blinds, mahogany wood inside window shutters, natural bamboo woven window shades, ebony window casements, or bamboo floors and all wood kitchen cabinets.
If you decide these window treatments are your choice for your home, please do yourself a favor before you buy and read my page about Child Safety In The Home first. Don't get caught up in the massive recall that is going on right now. You want to protect your children and pets at any and all cost!
If You Are An Extreme Detail Person
However, if you are an extreme detail person, some might call you a "nit-picky" person, and want everything right down to the most minute detail to be the same window after window, you probably will not be happy with wooden window blinds, woven shades , and wood inside window shutters as your choice for your window blinds and shades.
Its The Nature Of The Wood
Just like your kitchen cabinets, the grains in wood are different from door to door and end to end on all your cabinets. Unless they are painted, there can be no consistency with these in the minute detail I'm talking about here. It is the nature of the wood grain you select and the color of the stain that is used to be inconsistent in nature. So is the case with wooden window blinds, wood inside window shutters, and some natural product window shades.
Extreme Minute Detail Of Perfection
Window blinds and shades made with wood are inconsistent when placed in windows that line up side by side to be out of square, out of alignment, or just not satisfactory to the eye when raised a foot or more; if you are looking for that extreme minute detail of perfection. It doesn't matter how cheap or how expensive they are, there will be some variance in the way they hang, the way they line up at the bottom, the color, the grain of the wood, etc. It's not going to be the same for every window no matter how hard you try, no matter how many times they are tweaked by the installer, and no matter how cheap or expensive they might be; the nature of window blinds and shades made of natural products is going to be inconsistent.
Then later, the blinds to go through the elements; one louver will take the heat from the sun, another won't and it will split, fade or warp. One will take the moisture in the bathroom, and another right below or above it won't. They are just blinds and will bleed, fade, and/or warp. Why, you ask? Why can't manufacturers just pay more attention to detail? Isn't this why we pay more for quality? Is there a difference, you ask?
Natural Products Act Natural
The truth is, it isn't their fault. Natural products act natural. Be it window blinds and shades, Indoor Wood Shutters , or Woven Woods and Woven Shades; they are of the same nature because they are manufactured from a natural product that has bumps, holes, weaknesses, thicknesses, thinness, worm holes, weather elements, and chemical processing affecting them before manufacturing them into window treatments. There are other things more energy efficient and better home insulation recommendations.
Side by side they will never be perfectly uniform in hanging, lifting, lowering, or just viewing them together. Another reason is, its also the nature of the window blind cord whether hand corded or machine corded. They are not precise and if you have that kind of eye for detail, you will be unhappy with this product, and it might drive you a little nuts.
Don't Dispair - There Is Hope
But, don't dispair! For those of you with a need for this great detail, there is hope. There are wonderful man-made products on the market that make uniformity a breeze for those side by side windows and an eye to the most minute detail. There are fauxwood blinds and faux wood shutters that unless touched, you cannot tell the difference between them and the finest woods EXCEPT the grain and color are now uniform and precise.
These great products can please even the pickiest of consumers in need of great detail. Even more so with faux wood shutters, because there is still the problem with man made and machine made ladders for the fauxwood blinds and wood blinds alike that will still be as inconsistent when partially raised. You won't have to deal with that with faux wood shutters.
Modern Technology Won't Fix The Problem
There is modern technology today, and you probably think this will fix the problem. I'm sorry to tell you the new technology does not "fix" these issues. Some window blind cord stretches, some shrink, some are not measured and produced exact, some have larger knots that take more space, and some are just thrown together to get the job done. Even the most expensive window blinds and shades are not exempt of these problems with todays cordless window blinds, routless wood shades, and motorized remote control blinds.
They can be adjusted by installers over and over again, and the manufacturer can remake them over and over again, however, as soon as you lift and lower them a few more times, you will develop the unevenness repeatedly. If this is going to bother you, please, do everyone a favor and change your product choice to something that has more consistency and control.
A Good Alternative Choice
Shutters are at least without cords, making this a good alternative, as long as you choose fauxwood for consistency in color and texture if the uneven color and texture is a problem for you in wood. Another alternative would be fabric workroom custom shades and drapery. At least they can be adjusted easily if not perfectly uniform from window to window. And once adjusted, they will stay consistent if fabrics are chosen carefully and cut correctly for the grain to prevent stretching and pulling.
Window Blinds And Shades
The things that are mentioned here about your choices should be discussed with the sales person or designer that you work with. The majority of consumers will not be affected by this inconsistency. But if you are one of those that will be bothered by it, take precaution and save yourself the aggravation and grief when you are selecting your blinds and shades for your home.
The majority of typical sales people will not even be aware of this, but most good designers will be. So buyer beware when you start the process of choosing window blinds and shades, wooden window blinds, inside window shutters, and woven wood shades.
